There is a kind of gratitude that is to cherish the present moment; there is a kind of warmth that we have always been there.
Today, the warmth of Thanksgiving Day, accompanied by familiar melodies, once again entered the nursing home.
When we arrived at the hall, the scene before us was warm and inviting. Today, many family members had come to visit the elderly, filling the hall with people. The companionship of family and the festive atmosphere intertwined, adding a touch of liveliness and warmth to this special day.
What was even more touching was that before our performance had even officially begun, waves of applause had already echoed through the venue. At that moment, we felt as if the elders had been eagerly anticipating our arrival. Familiar faces, warm greetings, and the soon-to-be-heard singing all became small joys worth looking forward to in their lives.
Due to the impact of the autumn cold last month, our visiting performance had to be postponed. Although the interval was not particularly long, when we gathered again, the enthusiasm and anticipation shown by the elderly deeply touched every volunteer present.
Perhaps, to us, this is just an ordinary visit; but to the elderly, a familiar visit, a favorite song, and a group of people who miss them can all become precious comforts in their ordinary days.
What we brought is not only singing and performance, but also a continuous care: we haven’t forgotten you, and we will come again.
At TCCS, we always believe that the significance of community service lies not only in organizing large-scale events, but also in being willing to spend time getting involved in the lives of the elderly, listening to their voices, and letting warmth truly happen through repeated companionship.
Thanksgiving Day is a day to express gratitude. We are grateful to the nursing home for providing us with the opportunity to serve, to every staff member who supports this event, and to all volunteers and children who participated in the performance. It is precisely because everyone is willing to give their time and heart, that this warmth across generations can continue to thrive.
Today, the packed hall, the cheers and applause that erupted one after another after the show ended, and the joy on the faces of the elders all reinforced our belief: some contributions do not require flowery language, and some moments of inspiration do not need deliberate arrangement.
Grateful for our encounter and grateful for your companionship. May every elder spend every warm and reassuring day surrounded by love and care.
