Recently, the Honourable Jodie Wickens, B.C.’s Minister of Children and Family Development and MLA, hosted a warm and heartfelt award ceremony at her constituency office to present certificates of recognition to TCCS (Tri-City Chinese Community Society)’s Outstanding Volunteers of the Year. The awards celebrated their selfless dedication and significant contributions to community service.

At the ceremony, Minister Wickens shared, “My family and I have lived in the Tri-Cities for over 20 years, and we deeply love this community. TCCS has always been an indispensable force here. I want to thank TCCS for its long-standing efforts in promoting multicultural exchange, caring for seniors, supporting youth, and organizing large-scale charitable events that bring love and energy into our community.”

TCCS President Rena Lau expressed gratitude on behalf of the organization, thanking Jodie Wickens for her support and encouragement of the Chinese community. She also encouraged the younger generation of volunteers to carry forward TCCS’s mission of serving the community—caring for one another, helping each other, and building a more harmonious and beautiful society.

Volunteer team leader Tina gave an emotional speech, saying that TCCS has offered her an invaluable platform for personal growth over the years. It helped her strengthen her organizational and communication skills, and, more importantly, it gave her a deep sense of responsibility through serving the community. As she prepares to enter a new chapter in life—starting university—she made a heartfelt promise: no matter how busy life gets, she will continue to support TCCS and give back to the community.

This year’s award-winning volunteers came from diverse age groups and service backgrounds. Some are long-time core volunteers who have supported the organization for years with dedication and consistency.

Some are youth volunteers who regularly visit seniors’ homes to bring performances and share warmth.

Others are young volunteers who stepped up and took initiative during large community events like the Spring Festival Fair, showcasing fresh energy and leadership.

They may not speak grand words, but through quiet dedication and sincere action, they embody the true spirit of serving and giving back to the community. Their stories are simple but touching—their efforts are the foundation of a united, caring, and vibrant community.

TCCS also takes this opportunity to extend its sincerest gratitude to all volunteers and their families. It is because of your contributions that each of our events can be so successful and meaningful.

Let us remember these beautiful moments and continue to move forward together—sharing this love and sense of responsibility with even more people.
